The Corner Shop uses tills operated by Paypal. (Nip down to see what happened to Nochex.)
Paypal is an internationally recognised system for securely processing credit (and debit) card payments between individuals and small companies. It's all to do with molecules and was invented in the Former Colony (probably by chaps with beards). Lately the chaps have upgraded their beards, with the result that the Corner Shop's prices are now correctly in the BRITON'S POUND. Hurrah!
Paypal regards everyone not within the Former Colony with blanket disinterest as "international." Tsk - these foreigns. Accordingly, the EMPIRE'S BRITON ought to click "Outside the US?" on the secure payment form. Paypal imposes an additional $2 "membership fee" for the first transaction, but this fee is refunded if you go on to use Paypal again. Please give the cardholder address as the recipient ("shipping") address otherwise special checks may be required.
The "rest of the world" we're permitted to recognise according to Paypal's special list comprises the Former Colony (Amer-ica), Anguilla, Argentina, the Former Penal Colony (Austral-ia), Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Excellent-land (Can-ada), Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Finland, France, that wily Prussia (Germany), Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.
What happened to Nochex?
Barely anyone used Nochex to purchase C Shop items, with the result that they "temporarily suspended" us for "inactivity" (ie, nobody using Nochex to buy anything from the C Shop). The "reactivation" process is ludicrously stupid and intrusive (pdf) -- seventy-seven times more idiotic than starting an account for example -- so we've decided not to bother. If you're really quite keen indeed on Nochex, pester us into going back.
