Stressed Eric
The legendary Donkey Scene

Eyeballs in the sky

Stressed Eric. At this point (Sunday July 18th, 1999), three episodes of the Absolutely/Klasky Csupo cartoon have been shown. The first two were unbelievably terrible, but, tragically for the millions who understandably didn't bother carrying on, the third one was tremendously funny.

For those people, then, here's a (flattened, so it'll also work on PCs) Quicktime movie of the already-legendary "donkey scene"; also a flavourful earlier moment. They've been compiled hastily and with not enough wires, so there's no sound. Still, eh?

THE SET-UP
Eric, pathetically currying favour with his ridiculously allergic six-year-old daughter, buys her a pony. (In reality a wheezingly decayed donkey.) Here's a quick shot of yon donko's disagreeable condition (136K).

THE PAY-OFF
Surprisingly, his tiny child is pleased with the reeking gift. But Eric's uncharacteristic pleasedness is brief, as she wishes to enter it in the school gymkhana. Nothing will dissuade her, so Eric is reduced to manhandling the aged beast into the arena. Unbeknownst to him, however, his pyramidal-bonce son, in a rare moment of lucidity, has made the connection between the somnolent non-pony and some rats springing about bouncily after lapping up a chemistry set experiment. Arriving just in time, the boy pours the remaining luminescent green soup down the donkey's throat. But will the springing bounciness effect sweep over the donkey in time? A nation gapes (2.4mb).

Will next week's episode continue the "good" theme, or will it revert to the established model of "hateably crap"? Let's hope for the former, eh, readers? (Spoiler - it was the latter, as was the entire rest of the series. Britain: rubbish at cartoons.)

Well, back to the unnecessarily teasingly-trailed "Operation Rod Hull."
